It is played by South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae. In the series, Gi-hun is a degenerate divorced father who is struggling with a gambling addiction. Before being whisked away to be part of the games, Gi-hun was leaving with his elderly mom. During his stay with his mom, he used to steal money from his elderly mother.
He then used this money to fuel his gambling addiction. Finally, like many contestants, Gi-hun agreed to participate in the game to win the prize money. The wins from the game would allow him to start afresh with his life and be able to not only start but also provide for his family.
